95 / 60 August 2006. Three Mexican fishermen were rescued from the Pacific Ocean. They had drifted to Marshall Islands, some 5000 miles off their home. They were so adrift for 9 months and 9 days, cut off from rest of the world and without any food or water!
Their boat had been hit by an accident, and after that, it was at the mercy of the waves and the ocean. The story of their rescue and survival went around the world.
A large retinue of journalists and cameras greet them when they come ashore. They explain that they survived by eating raw fish and birds, and drinking rainwater they had collected in empty gas tanks -- not to mention their faith in God.
They are received as heroes, but it does not take long for people to start doubting their story. Some think that they are drug couriers. An American publisher on the other hand is convinced that it’s a miracle. A movie and book deal follows, and a new adventure begins in the lives of these three fishermen.
9 Months 9 Days reconstructs this amazing tale. An Ozcar Ramírez González film for Arte Mecanica.
