47 minutes 65 years on, WWII hero Leon Cooper returns to Tarawa, an islet less than three miles in length and half a mile in width, in the Pacific. It’s the site of the bloodiest war ever ought in marine history. Thousands of soldiers died in a fierce gun battle on the Red Beach in 1943.
Mortal remains of more than 300 soldiers lie buried in unmarked graves, waiting to return home. And so does the unspecified amount of live ammunition.
Exasperated by the ‘callous indifference’ of the US administration, the 89-year old hero of six WWII battles decides to document it cinematically. Academy-award nominee and Golden Globe winning actor Ed Harris lends his voice talent to Return To Tarawa, an emotional journey and crusade of Leon Cooper. "The piles of garbage, such as plastic bags and bottles, food wrappers, soiled diapers, and other trash continue to pile up — an insult to the memory of all who fought and died there for their country."
A Steven C Barber film for Vanilla Fire Production.
